Montana Becomes First US State to Ban TikTok Over Security Concerns.

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte on Wednesday signed a bill banning the popular social media app TikTok from being used on government devices. The order comes amid growing concerns about TikTok's data collection practices and potential security risks.

"TikTok is a national security threat," Gianforte said in a statement. "This ban will protect Montanans from the Chinese Communist Party's surveillance and data collection efforts."

TikTok is a popular video-sharing app owned by Chinese company ByteDance. The app has been downloaded over 2 billion times worldwide and has over 100 million users in the United States.

In recent years, TikTok has been under fire for its data collection practices. The app has been accused of collecting data on its users without their consent and sending that data to China.

The US government has also expressed concerns about TikTok's potential security risks. In 2020, the Trump administration attempted to ban TikTok from the United States, but the ban was blocked by a federal judge.

The Montana ban is the first of its kind in the United States. It is unclear whether other states will follow Montana's lead.
